    As a business owner (computer repair), parts need to have a 70% profit margin + whatever your hourly rate needs to be. For example, if a part costs me $25, I need to charge about $85 in order for it to be worth it to keep parts in stock. If my hourly rate is $260 and it takes me half an hour, the bill should be $215 ($85 + $130). Special order parts don't need to have such a high profit margin. Just enough to cover you in case you need to replace the part under warranty. I've found a profit margin between 20% and 30% on special order parts is sufficient. If the part is really expensive then the profit margin can be even lower. I just did a motherboard replacement for a client. The motherboard itself was $460 and I charged him $525 for it (which is about a 12% profit margin) plus half an hour of my time, so $655. It was well worth it seeing as it was a $2,500 computer that was only about a year old. You don't have to completely screw people over or make 3-10x your cost on a job in order to stay in business. I absolutely hate contractors because in my experience 99% of them are greedy scam artists. No, I'm sorry, you don't need to make $10,000+/day per customer. That's just pure greed. When the decking costs $2,600 and you're charging me $40,000 there's a problem. Even if you paid your guys $100/hour your cost would only be $9,000 and you know he's not paying his guys anywhere NEAR that much. When contractors quote me like this I call them out on their greed and tell them to F off. It takes time but you can find contractors that aren't greed a-holes.

    T1 and T2 are the load (motor) side of the contactor, L1 and L2 are the line (power) side of the contactor. You checked the wrong side of the contactor. When in doubt follow the power wire. Actually if you are in doubt. Check both the L1 and L2 side and The T1 and T2 side of the contactor. This particular contactor only switches between L1 and T1. L2 and T2 are physically connected all the time.

Honestly, it’s the same tool just one is magnetized. I must say tho’, those Klein ECX Bits look better made/chiseled. I love both Klein and Milwaukee. I wonder if Klein sells the bits alone like Milwaukee does? I’ll see. Nothing wrong with having extra bits, right? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤔🪛🔩🔌🔋⚡️

    I just want to give thanks for you taking the time to make these videos and explaining them so people actually understand. By far you make the best videos I've seen!! Most of the videos I see people post they skip over the most important part that just happens to be the reason you're watching the video in the first place so you find yourself rewinding and pausing so you can see if you just missed it or see if u can kind of figure out what it looked like before and after they skipped over that part. As I train people that make medical and military equipment it's very important that you are patient and actually go step by step so that they understand it completely. Like I said most people will skip over certain steps and what's the point of making a video because there's always going to be somebody that knows one step but not the next and that's why we need videos like you post. So I appreciate you taking time out of your schedule to help people like me and let you know there are people out there that do appreciate it so thanks again

  • @mikedee4399

    I wanted to leave a comment and thank you for making such a really good video!! The videos that you have posted so much better than all the other ones I've seen. You take your time and actually explain everything step by step. A lot of videos I've seen they will explain how things go but seems like most of the important parts that you need to know and is the reason you are looking up the videos they don't demonstrate how it is done they get to that step of the process and pretty much skip over it and it's already finished so you keep backing up the video and pausing it at spots so you can kind of figure out yourself how they did it and like I said that's the reason we are watching the videos in the first place lol. I do electrical wiring to make military and medical devices which it is important that they are made correctly u don't want them to fail or malfunction when they are needed. I'm in charge of training the new hires and most of them will come over to me afterwards and thank me for being patient and taking my time while explaining each step and if they don't fully understand at 1st and watch what they are doing to help figure out an correct what and why they are having trouble. I now understand what they meant because that's exactly how I felt when watching ur videos!! Because some of the people that make videos I don't know why they bother they remind me of the guy that trained me and when I asked a question because I was confused he would tell me to look at the paperwork it should tell me but obviously I didn't understand that's why I was asking him LOL and there's no sense teaching somebody if not going to teach them right. sorry for such a long comment but thought it was important to give thanks and let you know that there are people out there that do appreciate you taking the time and making these videos to help people. How much do you know about fixing cars 😆

    The return line insulation is more for preventing condensation damage on other enclosed wall structures, NOT so much for retaiing the cold insulation because the heat exchange already happened within the air handlers and the return line goes back to the compressor starting another cooling cycle.

    Just a caveat about the window locks - and air conditioner installs in windows in general - on many modern windows, the upper panel can be lowered then swung out for cleaning. If you only lock the lower panel in place, that doesn't stop somebody from swinging out the panel - and oftentimes even remove it. For the times I've put an A/C unit in the window on the ground floor, I've placed wooden blocks on both the inside track and secured some between the top of the lower window and the outside frame to prevent convenient access. Setting up the window-sensors to alarm with the window set up for the A/C is another consideration for those who have a security system set up.

    Insulation ? Yes, but the wall cover and the other velcro wrap around the already insulated conduits is a bit over the top. It looks good, but all it takes is a service guy needing to access the line and it will all be ripped apart......and then you'll be cursing to have to redo the entire thing again.

    Bro.. "low" side is return refrigerant (as a GAS) If it condeses back to liquid before the compressor,, the "slug" will/can break the compressor valves or the pump itself. Scroll pumps are less fragile than pistion pumps. The insulation helps prevent that possibility.. You really should change what you said in the video but whatever. Sounds like ur selling those complicated trim pieces & clicks. 🇺🇸

    • @HowToHomeDIY
      @HowToHomeDIY 10 годин тому

      Nope not selling them. Not being paid by them. I needed to make this repair with the insulation. I liked the outlet kit in what it offered and how it looked so I added it as something new and interesting. Yes the insulation does that and helps keep it cold on the return so the compressor runs as efficiently as possible. If it’s less cool it can make the compressor work a little harder which consumes more electricity and also wears the compressor out faster. So I feel no need to change what I said and I still stand by it.

    I installed a Micro-Air 368 on my 4-ton Heat Pump. It took my inrush of 107 amps down to 21 amps and my running amps from 23 amps down to 6 amps. However, I have a lingering question: Since watts = amps x volts, that means that my running watts went from 5,520 watts down to 1,440 watts. Now, to me, that looks like I am saving watts and by extension saving money. So, back to my lingering question: Are we actually saving watts and money? I will appreciate any light shed on this "lingering question! Doc here

    Wanted to use this in my daughter's room to replace a 30 year old wall mounted unit but the 115V circuit is already at near max load, so we went with another 230V wall unit to minimize downtime. The temps right now are incredibly high. But I like this to supplement my bedroom until I can retrofit my house with mini-splits. That way my wife, who works from home isn't freezing until I get up for my night shift...I like my bedroom cold for sleeping.

    It really looks like the support bracket was made to fit into the window frame to me 😅 at least that’s where I would want it to fit into

    We've had ours for 3 years now. It hooks up to wifi, and phone app is the best!

    I used the same foam rubber split insulation and the same uv tape. I differed and wrapped the entire foam with the uv tape and called it good. Did the same method for my backflow preventer. The uv tape lasts about 3-4 years before it begins to deteriorate, whereas the foam by itself only lasts a year or so. I'm in Florida so it gets cooked everyday. Whether it is a benefit, don't care. It looks nice. The two times a year I get s freeze, my backflow pipes are good. Most of my neighbors put a plastic covered rock over theirs.

    Or just stop buying cheap hoses. I coil mine and it never gets tangled

      Yeah some love Generac. That one has good power and low THD.
